The famous general, Hannibal said, before he began his march through the Alps with his elephants in order to attack Rome: “We either find a way or we will make one!”. This attitude sums my philosophy on success since I first read a history book about Hannibal at the age of twelve. When I see someone stopping or hesitating before embarking on a journey, right away this simple “strategy” comes to mind …
Find a way or make a way sounds good as a philosophy, but it has value only if we know where we are going.
There is nothing new in stating “if you don’t have a goal, you will get nowhere.” Everybody is aware of that, even if he never attended a motivational talk before.
The breakthrough comes with the fact I have learned over the years that goals are not just valuable because it gives us strength, but they help us forming a new attitude.
Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft said “The greatest block of improvement is success.” It may sound strange, but recession has a major advantage: people are forced to use their creativity to find new solutions that may have never occurred to them before. This economic downturn shifts people’s attitude. Downturns can give you big change. No season lasts forever, after winter comes spring, no matter if it’s financial winter or relationship winter.
Now what matters is not that your life will change in a second, but your attitude can change in a second. If you want to double your income, it won’t change in a second, as it shouldn’t, but the BEGINNING of your wealth can start right now.
You can’t restore your finance overnight. Or get your body into a fine shape. Or starting your dream relationship. But you can start the journey into the future TODAY.
It all starts with an attitude, and attitude starts with a decision.
I come from a poor family. My father was a poet, my mother was a nurse. I got three gifts from them no amount of money can match: the love of reading, a „can do!” attitude, and a desire for consistent and never ending improvement. These three helped me on the way becoming who I am today. Growing up in the darkest socialism, I would have never had the chance to become free if it was not for my parents.
They taught me this as well: the question is never “what is happening to me”, it is always “what am I going to do about it?”.
Whatever hardship you have to endure now, instead of succumbing to depression, there is always something can be done about it. Your attitude – the right attitude – will mean the difference between success and failure.
So the steps that can help you when you are facing a problem are…
Step 1.: Is there any GOOD that I can point out in the situation? Step 2.: What is it that I can DO about it right now to make things go right? Step 3.: Where can I found the right source to get my knowledge/ability/skills into a higher state so I can resolve this problem smoothly?
In 2010 (sounds like a year from a science fiction book, right?) go with Step 1.,2.3. And you will start experiencing a different kind of world.
I hope to hear about your success soon. Until…
